Despite the difficult time of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic in the global economy, the maritime industry can look into the future with cautious optimism. Above the short-term perspective, dominated by the negative economic effects of the epidemic, trends favoring stability and maintaining the economic situation in the maritime economy are emerging.

The shipping and shipbuilding industries today are more resistant to the crisis than on the eve of the global financial crisis of 2008. Since the previous recession, the industry has undergone a thorough restructuring, as a result of which oversupply of available tonnage and production capacity has been reduced to a safe level.
